Activating a Walmart Family Mobile Phone

The first thing you need to do is purchase a Walmart Family Mobile cell phone. There’s a large selection of WFM phones available to choose from, including the latest iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices.

To activate online, follow the prompts to get your new phone set up. First it will ask you to enter the SIM card number. Every WFM phone comes with a red activation card. This is where you’ll find the number. It should start with “890.” You’ll also have the option to keep your existing phone number or get a new one!

Next, you’ll need to choose a service plan. All of our service plans are monthly, pay-as-you-go plans. There are no contracts or activation fees. Depending on how much data you want, you can select the plan that works best for you. They start as low as $24.88/month, and you can always add more data or more phone lines later on.

The requirements include:

  • T-Mobile-compatible phone OR an unlocked GSM phone that operates at 1900 MHz frequency (Band 2)
  • For LTE service, Bands 2 and 4 are required, or in some areas, Band 12
  • Blackberry, Nokia Lumia 710, and Sidekick devices will either not work or have limited functionality on the WFM network

To use your existing phone, you’ll need to purchase a Walmart Family Mobile Bring Your Own Phone SIM Kit. Following the online activation prompts, you will enter that SIM card number online. Once the phone is set, it’s time to select a Walmart Family Mobile service plan with unlimited talk, text, and the data you need.

Then you can continue following the prompts to set up your phone and finalize your account details. If you want to transfer an existing phone number, you can do that, as well.
