These features can help with visual, hearing, speech, cognitive, and mobility impairments.

Over the past several years, smartphones have made big leaps in accessibility. Thanks to new technologies and apps, it’s easier than ever for differently abled individuals to use their cell phones. Walmart Family Mobile is committed to making sure those accessible features are available to our customers. If you come across any problems at any point, please let us know by emailing accessibility@tracfone.com or by calling 877-799-9989.

In the meantime, here’s an overview of some of the accessibility options available.

Accessibility features on your phone

While every phone is different, most of them come with built-in disability-friendly settings. One example is something called screen readers. This is something designed to help the visually impaired by reading the phone screen out loud. Instead of having to see or read the screen, users can turn on the screen reader to do it for them. On Apple devices, it’s called VoiceOver. On Android devices, it’s called TalkBack.

This feature comes in handy for texting, calling, emailing, online shopping, using apps, and much more, allowing visually impaired individuals to use their phones in the same ways sighted people do.

But there are many other great accessibility features on phones and they can help with more than just vision. These include:

  • Vision: Screen reader, adjustable font/contrast, zoom/magnifier, virtual personal assistance, dictation
  • Hearing: Large screen with QWERTY keyboard, TTY devices, Real Time Text (RTT) closed captioning, hearing aid-compatible smartphones
  • Cognitive: Simple interfaces, calendars and reminders
  • Speech: QWERTY keyboard, gestures, personalize messages, TTY devices, Real Time Text (RTT)
  • Mobility and Dexterity: Voice commands, gestures

Not sure about what features are available on your phone? You can find more information on the company’s website: Windows, Apple, Google.
